Good Times!

A good time was had by all at the Ridgewood Fun Day yesterday, not least by room 10! It was a great success, we even had people dancing outside in the sunshine! We were made very welcome there, and everyone said some very nice things, which is always great.

There were some recordings and videos done, we’re just checking if we can put them on here. Meanwhile, here are some pics of the day…

All Set for Saturday

Our set list is sorted, out timings are right, we might even be together and in tune now and again(!), so we’re all ready for our outing on Saturday – all we need is an audience! We’d really appreciate some support, it should be a fab day out, the sun will be shining, the birds will be singing…and so will I!

So come along and meet Mark, Hazel, Dan, Helen, Ben, Ailsa, Joël, John and me, Pat!

That’s the Ridgewood Centre, 244 Station Road, Yate, BS37 4AF – be there or be really boring, doing nothing on a sunny Saturday afternoon!

You know how you’re always asking where you can see/hear us? Well……

We’ll be joining in the Fun Day in Ridgewood Community Centre, in Yate on Saturday 21st July! It starts at 11am, goes on till 3ish, but room 10 will be on at round about 2.30 for an hour or so – saving the best till last! We’ll be over near the Cupcake Cafe, you could sit with a cold drink while listening to us!

We’ll be doing all our dance numbers, if anyone wants to try their hand (feet?!) at swing dancing, but including some slower tunes too, for a relaxing summer’s afternoon.

So…put it straight in your diary – Saturday 21st, in the Ridgewood Centre, 244 Station Road, Yate, BS37 4AF. Looking forward to seeing you there!

Smoking…well, maybe melting in the heat….

Last night was our first public performance together, and it went great – people said some very kind things.

Here are some pics from the evening, you can see my face gets closer and closer in colour to my frock as the evening goes on…Giving it welly in our rehearsal!.img_1546.jpgThe band outside in the ‘cool’ garden area of the club, before we went on.

Joël, John, Dan and Helen, doing their thing.

Helen, Ailsa, Hazel and me, Pat. And Ben, on drums in the back – I’ll make sure to get a better pic of him next time!

I’m almost an absentee!

I was an hour late to rehearsal tonight due to the motorway being closed, so it was a bit of a flying visit! Definitely well worth the journey though, they must’ve been working so hard before I arrived! I couldn’t not go, I just love singing with the room 10 band so much.

Everything is shaping up well after the recce some of us went on this week – at least we know we’ll fit on the stage! Well, most of us will anyway…..

NOW we’re cooking on gas!

John, our lovely new bassist, has decided to join us, so room 10 is complete! We had a full house of musicians last night, making a great big sound, not so much of the ‘little big band’ now……

With the set list for our first gig finalised, we’re now tweaking the balance of each number – it wouldn’t do if no one could hear Joel’s guitar solo, now would it?

We have a bassist! (Hopefully….)

John came along last night with his bass guitar, and showed us all up by sight reading all our prices rather better than we play them after having time to learn them! He says he enjoyed himself, and is coming along next week to meet, and play with the rest of the band – we were three down last night.

And what a difference he made to our sound – I’d have hardly believed it. Right from the first few bars of Tuxedo Junction, we sounded more complete, somehow. He’ll be a definite asset.

Men…and women…at work!

Tonight we worked through our set list, including the instrumental pieces, so it gave me some time to take some sneaky pics! Sorry guys, but I think you all look really cool!

A full house – and we’re all raring to go!

After various holidays, breaks and illnesses, we were all together again last night, and loving it! We’ve more or less agreed our set list and running order for the June party, so just lots of polishing to do.

And the next gig has been firmed up – the Ridgewood Fun Day, on the 21st July – there’ll be stalls, beer tents, fun for all the family…and us! And we’re indoors, which must be a plus….

I’m back!…..wait…where is everyone..?!

Just as I get back to work with room 10, half the band slope off! Only five of us today, but it all worked surprisingly well – we must be the five most important musicians, clearly!

It was lovely to catch up with everyone again, and terrific to be singing again, I’ve missed it so much.

We started learning Mack the Knife this evening, with its five…six…seven key changes? Who’s idea was it to do that one?! Oh….mine. Great fun though!

Next week we should have a full house of band members – should be interesting…
