A great time was had by all last Saturday, at the Westonbirt volunteers’ summer party.
Luckily the weather was kind to us, and everyone had the choice of sitting under cover with the band, or outside in the sunshine

Thank you for having us!
30s, 40s, 50s….jazz, swing….upbeat for dancing….. romantic and smoochy…we do it all!

…..this time for a gig in the National Arboretum in Westonbirt, for the volunteers.
Sadly no…it’s for Rag’n’Bone Man, playing there tonight! And Keane on Friday, Madness on Saturday, and Texas on Sunday…we’re in good company!
We’ll be in the Great Oak Hall, weather permitting.
We’re so lucky, getting a chance to play in such interesting and gorgeous places! Last week a beautiful village green, in a couple of weeks time a stunning oak hall.
What a fab time we had this afternoon in Almondsbury! But the heavens opened during our set, which was a real shame, after such a promising forecast. Still, it didn’t stop me dancing in the rain, during the fab instrumentals!
Here are some pics from the afternoon, hopefully more to come.
It’s this Friday! So if you’re wondering what to do on the holiday weekend, why not come to this beautiful village and have a fab time!
Not only us there, the Semitones are playing as well, other musical items too, and an airplane display! What’s not to like!
And free admission…but bring plenty of cash for the stalls!
Hello to Shan and Andrew! Ok, I know they came along last week, but it wasn’t a vocals night, so I wasn’t there!
So…are we expanding? Well, we have a booking for a gig in July, in Westonbirt, but unfortunately two of our regular musicians aren’t available, so Andrew and Shan were asked to step in, and they kindly agreed!
They did brilliantly tonight, especially as we were missing three of our regular musicians, for various reasons. So many of our numbers were a bit…empty. With holes, where the other parts should be! Still, if they can cope with that, they can cope with anything….
A great time was had by all last night in Later@Resound, including us! So wonderful to be entertaining an audience again, we’ve really missed it.
In fact, it was such a success, we’ve been asked back next year! I fancy a Valentine’s Day ball, how about you?
I’ve compiled some of the pics and videos here, enjoy!
Our gig is a week today, and we’re all getting excited!
Friends often say “I’d love to hear you!” …so here’s your chance!
Only 50 minutes from Cardiff, much less from Bristol, of course, Resound is a fab venue – professional sound and lighting, just a token entrance fee (pay at the door) and BYOB, so a cheap night out…what’s not to love?! I might even have space in my car for a couple of local friends!
Don’t forget your dancing shoes!
Mark, Hazel and I popped over to Resound this morning, for a recce before our gig on the 11th March. And we all agreed – what a fab place! The very helpful Bob showed us around, and talked us through his lighting and PA plans. This will be our first gig with the venue sorting out our PA mix – how exciting! Anyone who knows me will know how, as someone who’s worked in broadcast sound for so many years, I find it hard to trust anyone else(!) but the lovely Bob reassured us completely. It’ll be fun! And such a joy, to not have to hump all my gear in, wearing a fancy frock and heels…
It’s eight whole weeks since I’ve been to a room 10 rehearsal, due to Christmas and other stuff, so I was thrilled to be back with the gang this evening!
We’ve realised we’ve only eight more rehearsals before our gig in Resound, Bristol, and we have lots to go over, both vocal numbers and instrumentals – it’s nearly two years since our last gig, due to the pandemic! So we’re working hard, polishing up our sound again.
Oh, and the microphone on a radiator? Well, we have the windows open for ventilation, and my mic comes out of my car boot a bit chilly….you wouldn’t want me to have cold paws now, would you?!
A few weeks ago Kathy joined us, playing alto sax, and she’s had a very steep yet successful learning curve! She’s doing brilliantly, and fits in so well, it’s like she’s always been one of us!
And more recently, Pete the double bassist has joined too. He’s still in the process of learning all our tunes, but he’s fitting in fantastically well too, it’s so lovely to hear such a great, smooth bass sound again.
We’re so lucky to have found two such great musicians, and such lovely people too!
So we’ll soon be ready to start gigging again (no pressure, you two!)
I wonder when we’ll play in public again? Fingers crossed it won’t be too long – we want to show off our new musicians!
