Only 50 minutes from Cardiff, much less from Bristol, of course, Resound is a fab venue – professional sound and lighting, just a token entrance fee (pay at the door) and BYOB, so a cheap night out…what’s not to love?! I might even have space in my car for a couple of local friends!
Trying out the foldback, singing a song we’re NOT doing in the gig…complete with mask, bag and brolly….
Mark, Hazel and I popped over to Resound this morning, for a recce before our gig on the 11th March. And we all agreed – what a fab place! The very helpful Bob showed us around, and talked us through his lighting and PA plans. This will be our first gig with the venue sorting out our PA mix – how exciting! Anyone who knows me will know how, as someone who’s worked in broadcast sound for so many years, I find it hard to trust anyone else(!) but the lovely Bob reassured us completely. It’ll be fun! And such a joy, to not have to hump all my gear in, wearing a fancy frock and heels…
A few weeks ago Kathy joined us, playing alto sax, and she’s had a very steep yet successful learning curve! She’s doing brilliantly, and fits in so well, it’s like she’s always been one of us!
And more recently, Pete the double bassist has joined too. He’s still in the process of learning all our tunes, but he’s fitting in fantastically well too, it’s so lovely to hear such a great, smooth bass sound again.
We’re so lucky to have found two such great musicians, and such lovely people too!
So we’ll soon be ready to start gigging again (no pressure, you two!)
I wonder when we’ll play in public again? Fingers crossed it won’t be too long – we want to show off our new musicians!
Four years ago, room 10 got together for the first time…a very different group of people to who we are now! But with about half of us stalwarts from the start, I think I can still confidently say we’re still the same room 10 band!
Here are a few pics from the last four years – and now we’re back to our full complement of nine, and rehearsing madly, I’m sure we’ll soon have more performance photos to add to these. 😁
Onward and upward!
Me and the girls giving it welly on our very first gig. The appreciative audience!Gig at Ridgewood Mark…The Boss! This was such fun! The Filton golf club party. A birthday party in Cardiff Tetbury, VE celebrations partyWas there ever a cooler pic?! Warmley Jazz Club, just before the first lockdown
It’s been a tough year for many, but we’ve still been meeting every week without fail…mostly on line, but occasionally in person, for a proper rehearsal…. when the tiers allowed!
Looking forward to 2021….and all those celebratory parties! And we thought 1999 was a biggie…..
Meanwhile, here’s a little something we’ve put together, enjoy!
No…not that one…! But at last I’ve managed to edit Straighten up and Fly right and get it more or less glued together. This is probably my favourite yet! Such a fun song.
Fingers crossed that we can play together in room 10 next week, and start gigging again in the spring, but until then, here’s what we’ve been up to recently. Enjoy!
