Still two weeks to go, and…..

How exciting! It should be a good do, with such a great audience…I hope they all bring their dancing shoes….!

Now we’re cooking on gas…..!

Room 10 is complete again. With Simon the drummer agreeing to join us, and Adam the pianist a couple of weeks ago, we’re now getting the sound we’d hoped for back in 2017, when we started it all off…such a big band sound, just brilliant!

Getting ready for our next gig, it’s a pretty steep learning curve for our new players…

Here are the details of the gig, if you’d like tickets contact any of the band, or use the contact form on this site.

PS It’s in Filton Golf Club…I forgot to say!

Welcome to Adam!

We have a keyboard player, at last! Adam came along last night and fitted in really well – it was so nice to hear those piano parts we’d not heard for about a year, since lovely Emma left us…like all those twiddly bits in ‘The Way you Look Tonight’!

Our next gig is just in a few short weeks, so lots of work to do before then….

Merry Christmas from room 10, but goodbye to Joël

We had our room 10 Christmas dinner last night, and presented Joël with a goodbye gift – Ailsa made a little souvenir version of our music stand banners. Cute!

No meet ups till after New Year now, so Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from room 10! Keep dancing!

A new guitarist!

Phil has joined us, after a few rehearsals, so when Jöel heads back to France we’ll be ok. Phew! We’d hoped a pianist/keyboard player would come along tonight, but for various reasons he couldn’t….but watch this space!

Lots of work to be done before our next gig, it’s just as well it’s not till the New Year!

Auditions and try-outs

Well, we’ve had rather more interest in our Gumtree ad than we’d expected, such a nice surprise! We’ve started sorting through them, and a keyboard player come along to join our rehearsal last night….unfortunately it wasn’t a mutual love affair, so we’re still looking!

A guitarist is coming along next week, so hopefully it’ll be a better match…

We’re recruiting!

Sadly, Joël, our lovely guitarist, is heading home back to France, so we’re on the hunt again.

Looking for either a guitarist or keyboard player…or maybe both! An ad has been placed on Gumtree, but if anyone reading this knows any potential musicians…or fancies a go themselves….contact us right away!

Slave to the rhythm..

Ben the drummer had a holiday from us tonight, and he’ll be delighted to learn how very difficult it was to do without him! But with a combination of electronic metronomes and optimistic counting, we got by…!

And Dave, one of our alto sax players was away too (these men are so romantic, having Valentine’s Day hols!) so there were lots of…well…quiet bits in our tunes! But as I’ve said before, it’s good when musicians are occasionally away, it pares down the music to the bare bones, there are no hiding places! (Something I myself was very aware of tonight, having to count beats before starting to sing)

One person who bravely came along was Joel, our lovely French guitarist. There’s loads of music for him to learn, but he’s starting to plough through it, and making us sound much better already, a much fuller sound.

Presenting…for the first time…a guitarist!

Joel, a guitarist, came along tonight to try out. I think he found all the new music he’ll have to learn rather overwhelming….or maybe it was meeting us which had that effect on him! Anyway, he seemed keen, and made lots of notes, so I’ve high hopes of him joining us.

A fun practice tonight – we enjoyed laughing at…no sorry…with Dan, and his disintegrating trombone mute….!

Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes!

We’ve had some fairly major changes of personnel since my last post (did you notice it had gone quiet?!)

Mike and Emma have left us, due to lack of time, and John decided to go too; we’ll miss them all hugely, and for a day or so thought we might fold…but we’re not to be got rid of that easily! David has definitely joined us as a second alto sax player, which is fantastic – it allows Mark to really show what he can do, with fewer restrictions than before.

We had a brilliant, useful practice tonight – thoroughly getting to grips with four of our favourite numbers, ironing out some kinks, and polishing them up to performance standard. And the confidence levels are noticeably rising…fast!! I’m sure it won’t be very long before we’re playing in public….
