Tetbury recce

Mark, Hazel and I (Pat) popped over to beautiful Tetbury today, to check out the venue of our next gig https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/southwestlive/1940s-sweetheart-ball/e-zzopyy

It’s all looking fab – we’re very happy with the hall, and it’s a good sized stage too. It’s very central – this famous building is just round the corner!

Such a pretty part of the country, we’ll enjoy visiting.

Happy birthday to Janet!

We had a fab gig on Sunday night, I’m still compiling the photos – here’s one from before we started (taken by Simon, the drummer…that’s why he’s missing!)

Everyone was lovely, and all so welcoming – thanks Janet (who’s birthday party it was) – it was terrific to see everyone up dancing the night away!

Another booking!

We’ve been booked to do our set in a 1940s event at the beginning of June, in Tetbury. It sounds like a fantastic night out!

More details as and when we have them (I don’t think this one is a private party, so you might be able to come along!)

First Welsh gig!

We’re doing our first Welsh gig, a private party in Cardiff at the beginning of May…yay! We’re international! A bit more planning required for most of the band, as most live in Bristol or beyond…what’ll work best…car sharing? Even a minibus is being discussed..! But for me (Pat) it’s brilliant…I could walk!

Cymru am byth!

Double, double bass!

Our new bassist Rich brought along both of his electric upright basses to rehearsal the other evening, instead of his bass guitar – he’s a man of many talents! He’s playing a different one each week, so we can decide which suits our music best – we think they look so cool, and sound even better!

And that extra one, in the middle? That’s Mark’s stick…wearing his coat! (What else?!)

Thanks to Hazel for the pic…and the headline!

Plotting and planning….

After Saturday’s triumph, tonight’s rehearsal was more of a meeting (although we did play some tunes, of course) – listening to different versions of new numbers for us to buy, to expand our repertoire, and discussing what gigs we’ll do….exciting!

We’re also looking for a new bassist, as John has had to leave us – he’s too busy now to fit us in. Shame, he’s so good! But there’s been lots of interest in our advert, so I’m sure we’ll find someone very soon.

We have a bassist! (Hopefully….)

John came along last night with his bass guitar, and showed us all up by sight reading all our prices rather better than we play them after having time to learn them! He says he enjoyed himself, and is coming along next week to meet, and play with the rest of the band – we were three down last night.

And what a difference he made to our sound – I’d have hardly believed it. Right from the first few bars of Tuxedo Junction, we sounded more complete, somehow. He’ll be a definite asset.

A full house – and we’re all raring to go!

After various holidays, breaks and illnesses, we were all together again last night, and loving it! We’ve more or less agreed our set list and running order for the June party, so just lots of polishing to do.

And the next gig has been firmed up – the Ridgewood Fun Day, on the 21st July – there’ll be stalls, beer tents, fun for all the family…and us! And we’re indoors, which must be a plus….

I’m back!…..wait…where is everyone..?!

Just as I get back to work with room 10, half the band slope off! Only five of us today, but it all worked surprisingly well – we must be the five most important musicians, clearly!

It was lovely to catch up with everyone again, and terrific to be singing again, I’ve missed it so much.

We started learning Mack the Knife this evening, with its five…six…seven key changes? Who’s idea was it to do that one?! Oh….mine. Great fun though!

Next week we should have a full house of band members – should be interesting…

Full speed ahead!

I’m away in Switzerland for a few weeks (I’m Pat, the vocalist, in case you didn’t realise who’s writing these blog posts….) but room 10 goes from strength to strength without me (cheek!)

The set list has been finalised for our first gig, so it’s now full steam ahead perfecting and polishing those numbers, those dance tunes, for the time being.
